A Caribbean practice without walls.
Jean-Jacques Stephen Alexis, working as JanJak II, moves between painting, music, writing, curation and cultural production. His work returns again and again to Haïti, the Caribbean, African cultures, inherited memory and the stubborn beauty of people who keep creating in the middle of rupture.
Color, rhythm, myth, history and contemporary life meet in a practice that refuses to place visual art, literature and music in separate rooms. The painting can carry a drumbeat. The song can hold an image. The written page can become another surface for memory.
